Ester’s son David has an intellectual disability. Unable to speak, he requires constant care, and

Zuzana Kirchnerová-Špidlová

A director and screenwriter, she studied law at Charles University and directing at the Prague

Film and Television School (FAMU). Her graduation film Bába (2008) won the top prize in

Cannes’ Cinéfondation program. Caravan is the first Czech film in three decades to be selected

for Un Certain Regard.
